Vortex Coolers

When you’re installing hardware in colder months, it’s very easy to forget just how hot the Australian summer can get, and how much hotter it can be inside a shiny aluminium or stainless enclosure with very little ventilation.

Its when the hot days of summer come around that you start to see problems – power supplies, signal converters and other equipment dropping offline or being destroyed by the heat trapped within your enclosures.

You can of course add ventilation, but this will often cause dust buildup (which also causes over-heating) and ruins the IP rating of your enclosure.

Alternatively, you can use enclosure coolers. And if you have compressed air available, one of the easiest methods is a vortex cooler.

Vortex coolers split your compressed air into hot and cold streams. The hot stream is ejected while the cold is pushed into your enclosure.

This not only keeps your enclosure cool on extremely hot days, it also keeps it dry and thanks to the fact that your enclosure is kept at a slight but constant positive pressure, completely dust-free.

Even better, unlike air-conditioning systems that include compressors and electronics, vortex coolers need only compressed air – they have no moving parts and are purely mechanical, meaning you don’t need to run power to them.

If you are interested in keeping your enclosed equipment safe and cool this season, please contact us with the size of your enclosure for more information and a quote.
